Welcome to my Robin Hood’s Bay gallery.
On the North Yorkshire coast between Whitby and Scarborough is the beautiful village of Robin Hood’s Bay. The numerous cottages are very closely built around the winding road which ends in a slipway, after it follows a steep ravine down to the ocean.
Records indicate that the village probably dates from somewhere in the 15th century. It was once a fishing village, but during the 18th century and early 19th century it was better know for the smuggling activities that were prevalent there. The layout of the village was ideal; between the cottages are many secret hiding places, bolt holes, secret passages and alleyways.
I visited the bay for my first time on my way home from Whitby in April 2008, and only managed a few hours to look around, but I did shoot lots of photographs, so hopefully you may find something of interest. I have returned to the village several times now and have taken many more photos. I understand that the beach is a great place for fossil hunting at low tide.
The pictures are of the bay, the cliffs, cottages and the harbour area, including a party of children launching inflatable boats from the slipway. I’m opening the gallery with a selection of images and will be adding more pictures later. Please call back and thank you for you visit.
