Dusted Flatirons Chautauqua Park Boulder Colorado
Scenic landscape view of freshly snow dusted Flatirons and people hiking at Chautauqua Park, Boulder Colorado. I really believe that you can not take a bad picture of the Flatirons. They are so majestic and are always changing with the light and weather. Chautauqua Park provides families with access to Open Space Mountain Park trails, which have a wide range of opportunities for children's unstructured interaction with nature. The Chautauqua Trail leads up and to the backside of Flatiron #1 with terrific views across the Boulder Valley, Indian Peaks and Rocky Mountain National Park. Chautauqua Park is a portion of an iconic historic landmark dating back to when the City of Boulder began preserving wild lands over 100 years ago. In the late 1890s, the Texas Board of Regents determined to establish a summer school for teachers in a cool climate. On July 4, 1898, over 4,000 people gathered for the opening day of the Colorado Chautauqua. Boulder civic leaders and Texas educators had joined together to create a cultural and educational summer retreat. Located at the base of Boulder's Flatirons and one of only 25 National Historic Landmarks in the state of Colorado, the Colorado Chautauqua is one of only a few remaining chautauquas in the U.S. The City of Boulder owns the 40 acres of land underlying the Colorado Chautauqua, along with an Auditorium, the Dining Hall and the Academic Hall. The Colorado Chautauqua, is the only Chautauqua west of the Mississippi River still continuing in unbroken operation since the heyday of the Chautauqua Movement in the 1920s.
