A friend and I were driving back to our homes in Vlseck, Germany after participating in memorial ceremony for an American pilot who crashed near the town of Lom in the Czech republic during World War Two when we passed a sign for this castle, Castle Hauenstejn. My friend suggested that we visit. Tired and groggy, I initially turned him down. He persisted and, 20 minutes later, we found ourselves driving up to the castle entrance.
I'm glad we did. Over the course of the following two years, I would visit Castle Hauenstejn at least another dozen times. Of course, part of the reason for that was due to the fact that I would end up dating the young woman who took our money that day during those ensuing two years. Just before I left the Army, which was the reason for my living in Europe at the time, I made a special trip back to Castle Hauenstejn in order to take the pictures that you will see as you look through this gallery.
